Delivering Justice for Twenty Years.
Kevin Ross has been enforcing, studying, interpreting, practicing, or applying the law for nearly 40 years, since 1987.
His appointment to the bench ended his partnership at the Minneapolis law firm of Greene Espel. His law practice included constitutional law, employment litigation and consultation, and general litigation. He was dubbed a “Rising Star” and then, after practicing only three years, named a “Super Lawyer” in the fields of governmental and employment law by The Minnesota Journal of Law & Politics.
Ross had joined the firm in 1997 after serving two federal judicial clerkships. He served in the United States Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit, for the Honorable Donald P. Lay and in the United States District Court, District of Minnesota, for the Honorable Paul A. Magnuson, Chief Judge. Before studying and practicing law, Ross served five years as a police officer in Iowa City.
Judge Donald Lay
Judge Paul Magnuson
"I'm embarrassed by the riches of mentoring I fell into along the way. My experiences as a police officer put me in the lives of sufferers of real adversity, tragedy, and despair. They taught me empathy and patience, and sometimes hope. Watching Judge Magnuson taught me always to encounter disputing parties and their lawyers with kindness and humility. Working as Judge Lay's judicial clerk intensified my respect and love for the law.
"Then I had the great fortune of joining the law firm founded by Cliff Greene and of learning from him by example how to treat clients as friends and coworkers as family. And I cannot forget that the most respected supreme court justice in Minnesota, John Simonett, had retired from the bench and joined the firm shortly before I did. He modeled wisdom, grace, and dignity. His friendship and encouragement inspired me until his passing."
"I hope to honor these mentors in the way I approach the law, the lawyers, and the parties in every case entrusted to me."
